IF you would like an invite [Sep. 21st, 2006|03:09 am]
Please leave the kind folks on this community alone. This community is for 'discussion', not invite requests.
Instead, please post on a community specifically targeted for giving out invites at Orkut Invite.

Hi folks,

1. Not sure how active this community is (other than for invites), but does anyone know if there's a way of telling how many accounts there are in Orkut currently?

This is easy with LiveJournal, but I can't see this anywhere obvious in Orkut...

2. What is the general feeling about Orkut here? What are the positives and negatives about using the site?

Could someone please send me an invite to orkut? I can give back invites, and my email is kdark1701 AT gmail.com

EDIT: Thanks for the invite, itiniti!

Hey, orkut! I just joined the community to learn more about it. I've been on a Google service testing binge lately and so far I like everything they have. It's a pretty tight set of services, I think, and I like how it's all slowly and progressively pulled together. I really hate MySpace but everyone I know is on it, as brutal as it is to look at the MySpace pages.

After reading the info page for the community I wasn't going to ask for an invite...bbbuuuutttt I see a lot of people are and no one seems to mind. Sorry if my assumption is incorrect.

But if someone wouldn't mind terribly, I have been trying to get an Orkut account to take a peek and see what it's all about for nigh on six months. Would someone kindly fire one off to me? Thanks a bunch!

I'd LOVE an Orkut Invite. Purdy Pleeze?! [Mar. 19th, 2006|03:44 pm]

I'm thrilled this community exists. It's reminicent of the popular gmailinvite community that I frequented a year ago. Hopefully this one will bring me the same luck. And I'm very good about giving back.

Now all I need is a kind soul to offer me an invite. :-)

Purdy pleeze? :-)

Slashdot recently ran a story about a amazon.com's new quasi-SNS program Amazon Connect. (The link is to an author's home page for amazon connect.)

Here's what amazon says about the idea:

"Amazon Connect is a new program currently open to a select group of authors. This program allows authors to post messages directly to their readers on a wide variety of subjects. Currently, messages will appear on the detail page of an author’s book as well as on her/his profile page. As part of the program, authors may create a profile page with personalized information."

Basically, they're trying to create a social network for authors, complete with a blog, bio, and friends listing. The interface is painful, but they're just starting out. Apparently there are only a dozen or so authors using amazon connect right now.

Does anyone else know of examples of social networking being applied to more conventional websites?

[EDIT: removed my lame request, see comments]

Orkut vs. Tribe [Nov. 29th, 2005|11:46 pm]
My friends are all on Myspace right now, which is just horrible. I've created an account at Tribe.net, but I'd like to know more about Orkut before I convince people to migrate. Has anyone here used Tribe? If so, what is better about Orkut? Worse?

P.S. An invite would be much appreciated. Edit: thanks!

Linked Orkut/Gmail? [Nov. 14th, 2005|02:21 pm]

Last time I logged in (it's been a while), I saw an option to link my Orkut account to my Gmail account. I thought "Why not?" and clicked OK. The only difference I noticed was that when I logged out of Orkut it logged out my Gmail. I cannot seem to log in to Gmail and then get to Orkut or vice versa without logging in again. What's the point of that?

Anybody find anything useful with linking your accounts?
