Hi folks,

1. Not sure how active this community is (other than for invites), but does anyone know if there's a way of telling how many accounts there are in Orkut currently?

This is easy with LiveJournal, but I can't see this anywhere obvious in Orkut...

2. What is the general feeling about Orkut here? What are the positives and negatives about using the site?

Thanks

There was a page on Orkut that gave the geographic demographic percentage wise, I don't recall if it gave actual numbers though.
If you care to know, it's kinda hidden in News > Demographics. But upon looking again, it doesn't appear to give numbers, just percentages.

Wikipedia might give some stats...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Social_network_service
It says for Orkut 16`000`000.

As for pros and cons... It has a clean interface. Uhm..I really would expect a Google service to have a better search engine for it such as searches based on geographic location [i.e., continent, country, etc] rather than what's currently inplace.

Thanks for the reply. I think I got some stats from the Wiki article, but was wary of it (a) being a Wiki article and (b) being out of date. I was hoping that like LiveJournal, Orkut would post up-to-date stats as well. I'll have a look for the page you mentioned though...

I thought Orkut came from a Google developer? Although perhaps he had hosted it by himself before...
