Slashdot recently ran a story about a amazon.com's new quasi-SNS program Amazon Connect. (The link is to an author's home page for amazon connect.)|
Here's what amazon says about the idea:
"Amazon Connect is a new program currently open to a select group of authors. This program allows authors to post messages directly to their readers on a wide variety of subjects. Currently, messages will appear on the detail page of an author’s book as well as on her/his profile page. As part of the program, authors may create a profile page with personalized information."
Basically, they're trying to create a social network for authors, complete with a blog, bio, and friends listing. The interface is painful, but they're just starting out. Apparently there are only a dozen or so authors using amazon connect right now.
Does anyone else know of examples of social networking being applied to more conventional websites?
